E-passport photo in Munich

Photo Studio E-Pass: Biometric e-passport photos now also available at Photogenika

From May 2025, the so-called e-passport photo will be available in Germany. It is intended to increase the security of identification documents. At Photogenika, we offer you the opportunity to have your e-passport photo professionally created in our photo studios in Westend and at Ostbahnhof in Munich. Our goal is to offer you an uncomplicated service that meets all current requirements. You can continue to come to us with or without an appointment. We will photograph you as usual in our photo studios and select the best photo together. We then send the e-passport photos directly digitally and securely to the responsible German authorities.

All you need is your QR code, which you will receive from us. With this you go to your German office or authority in Germany and apply for your ID card there. For you as a customer, (almost) nothing changes. The only change: instead of a passport photo, you will now submit your QR code to the authorities.

If you want to have no picture from the passport photo machine at the authority, then come to us!

What is an e-passport photo?

New method of image transmission

The e-passport photo is a new process for creating and transmitting biometric passport photos, which will be mandatory in Germany from May 2025. It is required to apply for an identity card. Instead of a printed photo, the passport photo is now sent digitally to the responsible German authorities. This not only ensures greater security and protection against forgery, but also a more convenient process when applying for identity documents.

To meet the high quality requirements, e-passport photos must be certified photographers - like at Photogenika in our studios in Munich. This ensures that all biometric requirements are met and the photos comply with the strict guidelines of the German authorities. As certified photographers, we are therefore still your point of contact for e-passport photos.

Details & Answers

about our e-passport photography

What is the difference between an e-passport photo and a regular passport photo?

For you as a customer, (almost) nothing changes. You don't need the internet or a smartphone either. We send the e-passport photo digitally to the relevant authorities, while normal passport photos are submitted as printed images by you. E-passport photos therefore provide more security and simplify the process of applying for an ID card. After the photo has been taken, we will give you a printed QR code to send off. The only change: instead of a passport photo, you will now submit the QR code to the authorities.

Do I need to make an appointment for an e-passport photo?

You are welcome to drop by spontaneously at our photo studios in Munich or book a meeting so that we can minimize waiting times. Both options are possible.

How long does it take to create an e-passport photo?

Creating your e-passport photo usually only takes a few minutes. Our team will ensure that the process runs smoothly and quickly.

What requirements must the e-passport photo meet?

Your e-passport photo must meet the current biometric requirements, including neutral facial expressions, correct lighting and a clear background. Our photographers are specially trained and know all the requirements exactly.

Do you also take e-passport photos with QR code for foreign authorities and offices?

No. We can only send the e-passport photos we take to German authorities and offices. Unfortunately, you cannot use the QR code you receive from us for foreign authorities.

Is my e-passport photo safe?

Yes, the security of your data is our highest priority. Your e-passport photo is securely uploaded to a so-called C5 high-security cloud, from where it can only be accessed by the relevant authorities and yourself. The QR code you receive enables secure transmission and downloading of your passport photo.

What are the advantages over photos in the Citizens' Office?

We are passionate photographers. With us you will get a nice passport photo and can choose from at least three photographs. Instead of machine photos, we are also there for you personally and advise you. And last but not least: If you make an appointment with us, you will not have to wait. Read here more about it.
