For us at Photogenika, every new kindergarten photography assignment in Munich, Unterföhring, is like opening a new adventure. You never know exactly what little personalities await you, what funny moments will occur, and how much energy will swirl through the rooms. That's exactly what makes our job so exciting and fulfilling! Recently, my colleague and boss Tina and I were privileged to spend another very special day at the Unterföhring kindergarten – an experience I'd like to share with you.
Welcome to Unterföhring: Preparation is everything
We received an incredibly warm welcome on our very first visit. This is so important, because good cooperation with the kindergarten team lays the foundation for relaxed photo shoots. We were immediately shown the rooms where we could set up our sets. We are constantly developing new, creative ideas for backgrounds and designs. It is important to us to kindergarten photography Not to create rigid studio settings, but lovingly designed worlds in which the children could feel comfortable and develop. After we set up our professional equipment—from the cameras to the backdrops—everything was ready.
The little ones first: magical nursery children
We started the day full of energy. Since kindergarten-aged nursery children often still need their morning nap and tire quickly, we always photograph these groups first. It is a very special experience to work with the youngest children. They are often still a bit shy or very curious. Patience and sensitivity are required here. We take plenty of time for each individual child. Nursery children often have older siblings in other groups. We like to include them briefly – this immediately creates a familiar atmosphere and, in the process, results in wonderful sibling photos. We photograph each child in turn on both prepared sets and in different poses to allow for a beautiful selection. With more than three nursery groups registered, this was a challenging but very enjoyable task!
When the energy rises: The kindergarten kids
After the nursery children, it was the turn of the slightly older kindergarten children. These are already real little personalities! They can often control their facial expressions very consciously and interact much more with us photographers. The goal here is to skillfully guide them, make them laugh, and playfully capture their most beautiful expressions. With little jokes, funny sounds, and plenty of positive encouragement, we create a relaxed atmosphere in which completely natural and happy photos are taken. Our prepared lists for each group are essential for keeping track of everything and ensuring that none of the registered children are forgotten. The Unterföhring children's home is large, with four registered kindergarten groups, so a structured schedule is invaluable.
More than individual portraits: groups and the team
After photographing each child individually, it was time for the group photos. We take photos of each nursery and kindergarten group, as well as special shots of the preschool children—an important milestone! Upon request, the teachers also have the opportunity to have their photo taken. They do such a great job every day, so we're happy to capture their team photos or individual portraits. These moments capture the community spirit that makes this kindergarten so special.
From shooting to treasure: The follow-up
But our work doesn't end when we put the camera away. Back in the studio, the magic of post-production begins. professional but natural retouching We optimize each individual image. Our goal is to portray the children as they really are – radiant and authentic. We then prepare the photos for our online shop.
