Boudoir photoshoot in a Munich hotel: A break for plenty of self-love
Do you know that feeling when you're just going through the motions in everyday life? As a mother of four, my client is a master at exactly that. But on this November morning in a hotel near Sendlinger Tor, it was about something completely different: It was about consciously flipping the switch. Out of the "mom role," into "enjoyment mode.".
It was a gift To herself (and her husband) – a moment she consciously allowed herself. To get in the mood, she first had a glass of sparkling wine to start the morning in a relaxed way.
From family manager to pure "self-awareness""
What impressed me most that morning was my client's determination. Women often need a while to warm up in front of the camera, especially for such intimate photos. But she was immediately "there." She had been so looking forward to this appointment that her anticipation simply overshadowed any possible nervousness.
While she was being styled for an hour by our trusted makeup artist, my trainee Elena and I used the initial time to prepare the room and familiarize ourselves with the space. Later, we retreated to the foyer to allow the client to enter a state of relaxation and enjoyment. This start was essential. It wasn't just about makeup, but about mentally arriving in the "here and now.".
When we started the shoot – first in a classic way by the bed and later playfully lying upside down – everyday life was forgotten. She was able to simply enjoy the moment and let go.
Hotel Tetris for the perfect picture
The hotel room provided a wonderful backdrop – but during a boudoir shoot, things quickly accumulate in the background: the client's suitcase with all the great outfits, our own equipment case, shoes lying around, towels, the coffee machine or our music box.
Elena and I worked hand in hand here to repeatedly remove these things from view, ensuring the framing remained calm and aesthetically pleasing for the camera. The great thing about it was that Elena wasn't just responsible for organizing, but also, as an aspiring photographer, photographer We also took photos ourselves. This allowed us both to work creatively, learn from each other, and capture the scene from two different perspectives.
The result of this teamwork was wonderfully natural images, where you'd never guess the "chaos" behind the camera. Whether relaxing with a wine glass on the edge of the bathtub or posing sensually in a hanging chair – we used every corner of the room without the technology disturbing the intimate atmosphere.
A feeling of security is key.
If there's one thing I take away from this shoot, it's this: Making the client feel good and relaxed, safe and comfortable – that's the most important thing. Only then can moments like the confident look in the door mirror or the heartfelt laugh, wrapped in a white towel, at the very end of the shoot, happen.
She was absolutely delighted to be doing something just for herself again. And you can definitely see that in the pictures.
